Where Have You Been, Young Lady?!

I've been right here, yo! Knitting my butt off*, like I'm supposed to be doing, right? I haven't been working on the projects I should be... but who determines what I should be doing anyway? My own conscience, I guess. Damn that cricket!!! Always making me feel guilty for making good progress on "other" things.

My design project (what I "should" be working on) is progressing slowly. Slowly because I have re-fallen in love with sock yarn. I finished one pair of Monkeys and immediately cast on the next pair.

MONKEY 1.0: Fly*Super Monarch in Raspberry Latte; size 2 dpns; a Valentine's Gift for my mom (they're a little small on me)

Here they are doing a little ballet. I never did have the feet for it...

The moment the ends were woven in, I wound up a ball of Socks that Rock lightweight in Red Rock Canyon-- which I purchased in Toronto at Lettuce Knit (it's famous yarn!)-- and cast on a pair of No-Purl Monkeys...

Losing the purl loses nothing for me in the overall effect of the pattern.

And the benefit is that with the added speed of not having to move the yarn around for the purls, I have a sock and a half in 4 days. Unheard of for me. I'd consider this a Hyperknit, wouldn't you Senor?

And I love this colorway!! Go get you some Red Rock Canyon and get HYPER!!!

*an oxymoron, wouldn't you say?

Senora,
I am loving the monkeys. Excuse my knitting ignorance by asking this question. When you say no purl, are you just knitting instead of purling when you come to it in the pattern? I am still a little new to knitting, especially these specific pattern things, and so I try to follow the directions to the letter. I would love to leave the purl out though. Thanks for entertaining my stupid questions. (Yeah, and I am years away from designing my own pattern I am afraid. I have been sewing for most of my life and have just realized in the past few years I don't have to have a pattern to make something. Of course it helps alot that my 8 year old daughter can be the model for my strange no pattern skirt trials. But knitting, I don't think I am there yet. Good for you!!)

Yep, I'm just knitting instead of purling. It makes the beginning of the repeat a little easy to lose your spot in, but after the first few, you get used to not counting on the purls to guide you.

As for designing, I'm not sure how well it is going for me, but we shall see. I am trudging along on the assumption that if other people can do it, then so can I. That's really all that qualifies me. That and my calculator and my tape measure... We'll see how it goes. :S

Dude, the no purls colorway looks awesome on film. So, you going to wear those to work tomorrow? You'll be done by then, right?

Hyperknits? Until we see a finished project, they're merely Superknits. But, I think we can agree that Kristin Scott Thomas would think they're cool.

I am also plodding along on my cascade project. Ok thats a lie, its not come out of the cute little bag you made for about 5 weeks.
In that time I have made 1/5th of a sock, and only spun about 300 yards of wools to make other things, which im also not interested in knitting much of lately.
Im going to be vague and blame the weather, and hope I snap out of it soon.

I love the no-purl monkeys, they would be so fast, I think il try some of those when I finally finish my twisted tweed ones. They took a setback last night as I left Morven in charge and I came back to find one of the needles had been eaten. (I suspect Pea, rather than Morven, but you never know...)
Also, REALLY great colourway.
I wonder how long it would take to spin sock yarn.....
